Poetry Apothecary

  • Holywell Trust 10-12 Bishop Street Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, BT48 6PW (map)

We invite you to join us in harnessing the healing power of words, connection and community.

Taking inspiration from Seamus Heaney’s description of a poetry ‘strong enough to help’ the #NewScript for Mental Health campaign has developed a unique Travelling Apothecary.

A lovingly hand-crafted, medicine cabinet, it is stocked with medicine bottles. But there are no tablets to be found  inside these bottles.

Instead, each bottle is labelled with a human emotion – such as despair, overwhelm, grief, resilience, love and more.  Inside each bottle is a carefully selected poem that speaks to that emotion.

In this event we will:

  • Gently explore and share our understandings of mental health and what we have found supportive and healing.

  • Invite you to select a poem from the Travelling Apothecary, which you can choose to read quietly or share with others.

  • Select and enjoy a healing herbal tea, brewed with locally sourced herbs.

  • Find out more about #NewScript for Mental Health, a campaign working for a society where everyone can access the compassion, connection and choices they need to help heal from difficult experiences. Flipping the Script, from chemical imbalance to power imbalance!
